Gone
A character rules the stage
a role to play a message to offer a purpose to fulfill
Eventually, when her part outlives its purpose
she walks backstage sheds her cloak
closes the dressing room door and exits out the back
No longer front and center no longer under the spotlight
burdened by the tumultuous storyline which once ruled her stage
nothing to carry now she’s gone
Dreaming of Adventure
17” x 24”
“Creativity is the Blue Heron within us waiting to fly;
through her imagination, all things become possible.”
~ Nadia Janice Brown
Inspired by the painting by Danielle Earp “Rising Moon,” I wove this during the pandemic symbolic of the Phoenix rising from the ashes. Even during the darkness of COVID, it reminded me that when mired in the boggy marsh, we can ultimately rise above with wings of hope and dream of adventures to come with each full moon.

Roots to Wings
In Memory of Andres Martinez Acosta and Darin Rubel
24” x 24”
This weaving is very special to me. It was woven to offer healing to my heart and in honor of two people I cherish who passed away within one day of each other during the pandemic. It is a hymn offered to their spirits as they rise from this world into the beyond. While they are no longer tethered to an earthly existence, we remain forever connected by the current of life.
Rising Up
Before her, cold and stagnant, a large block of clay
Edges hard and towering overhead with steely presence
Lifeless it begs for attention
while courage and trepidation move simultaneously through her hands
As she dips into water, scooping life
Trusting with uncertainty, she touches the cold
She massages warmth into the clay and marvels as shapes are born
A rising menagerie
Her wolf pack leads
Then playful bobcat pups and mama cougar
a family of rambunctious racoons
followed by foxes and a white-tailed deer
The more she scoops
the more life lifts
Sun shines, bulbs spring from winter darkness
Wolves howl while deer weave through pine and fir
and bobcats dance across a rainbow of color
And now with a confident hand, she reaches into water
and nurtures lifeless into form

Hummingbird Stillness
When feeling stuck or overwhelmed
I sit outside and open my heart to the guidance that greets me there
This morning, amidst daylilies, salvia, bee balm and pesky pollinators
I notice three colorful teachers resting quietly on a branch overhead
What a gift to see not one yet three hummingbirds perched in peace
not for a mere moment, but for a lingering
Guiding me toward my next step, they speak
Encouraging me toward my next move, they display
Leading me simply and wisely
into stillness
